High Sierra Regatta 2023 Results

As usual the lake was fantastic for sailing. Really close competition between everyone. A new or sort of new Banshee sailor arrived, Chip Handley. Chip last sailed a Banshee and at Huntington Lake 46 years ago! He arrived with the last Ron Moore upgraded Banshee and Chip did an amazing job putting it together. Welcome back Chip well done!

The weather was progressively hotter during the week. The wind was consistent to the point of ibuprofen being used after both days of racing with at least with one skipper. The evenings cooled down during the night to the mid and upper 40’s. The campfire was still lit every night thanks to Rhonda Meyers. There was plenty of food and per tradition we had a great spaghetti feast Friday night hosted by mother Mary. Saturday was our traditional Mexican potluck. Everyone enjoyed the food and there was plenty of it especially the desserts.

The regatta had a lower than usual turnout mostly due to some of the campgrounds being closed. The lake level was great and the water was colder due to the snow runoff, wetsuits needed this year.

The races were close and very competitive all through the fleet. Rob keeps getting faster and faster and Chip sailed fantastic considering a 47 year hiatus. Wayne and John got into a tacking dual with over 10 tacks on the last short leg to the finish line. Charles most likely looked back and enjoyed the show. John won the tacking dual and Wayne needed some oxygen at the finish line. Hopefully next year we can have more Banshees on the starting line so start planning now!
